We felt right at home with chef Malong Pendar and the wholesome vibe of the place that felt a lot more like the dining room of someone’s home than a commercial restaurant. The food was great, featuring chicken, black eyed peas, red chard, plantains and a smattering of other offerings. We highly recommend that you check this place out.

Photo

This week the Oakland Urban Dining Guide visited a Jamaican...

This week the Oakland Urban Dining Guide visited a Jamaican restaurant called, Sweet Fingers. Technically it was not in Oakland, it’s about 2 or 3 blocks out of the city limits, but for all intents and purposes this place is in Oakland. We arrived at the restaurant at 1030pm and from then until 12am things got a little wild. The Jamaican Jerk Chicken was excellent, so were the crab cakes. We also did a little Jamaican spirits testing, yielding positive results. Enjoy the video

Getting ready for Sade’s comeback album coming in...

Getting ready for Sade’s comeback album coming in February. This was a real unique experience as it was the first time we had eaten an entire meal devoid of utensils. Fear not, the OUDG team is resourceful and developed the “throw the carpet” technique to consume the Ambrosius cuisine. Highlights included Ethiopian Lager, Kitfo and guest diner Justin Bethune. Hope you enjoy the video. Eating dinner is cool. Eating dinner in Oakland is even cooler.

Thanksgiving 2009

Heritage Turkey

Footbawl

Thanksgiving 2009

This week the UODG team went looking for a good dose of Laotian...

This week the UODG team went looking for a good dose of Laotian food. This sent us deep into the Avenues of Allendale (East Oakland). While there were some hiccups along the way the final result was quite desirable. The highlights of the evening were definitely the Laotian sausage and the Laotian papaya salad. We highly recommend that you give the Vientian Cafe a shot. Eating dinner is cool.
